I haven’t skied in 30 years and I wasn’t even sure if I’d like it. My 5-year-old was taking lessons and SOMEBODY needed to ski with him, so I gave it a try!
My ski instructor said that I was the most balanced skier that she had skied with. I almost laughed out loud! Like, I’m Buddha on skies! Maybe this soulful shift is really working.
Inspired By Another Mother’s Wise Words
Turns out, I love skiing and enjoy it on my own too! One day, I had just gotten off the J Bar and was taking in this incredible view of Willoughby Gap when I heard something that made me pause. A mother and her son had just come down a steep hill behind me.
“I know that was terrifying, but I want you to remember,
YOU DID IT!”
Mother skiing with young son
After initially thinking, ‘Weird, that Mom made her kid terrified,’ I had a second thought, ‘Wow, she is very wise!’

What struck me was how intentional she was when she said those words. As if, she knew, what she said could change the way he thinks about what he’s capable of.
As someone who has allowed fear to take me down roads that I wish I hadn’t gone, I honored that moment. As a Mom, I will think about that moment as I teach my own son to be brave.
Empowering My Little Guy to ‘Go For It’
After six lessons for him and one for me, it was time to try skiing together. We started on the small hill, but I knew, right from the start, just where my adventurous little guy wanted to go.
As he rode up that J Bar, I was in awe! He looked so little against that big mountain ahead. Somehow, I had helped to instill enough confidence that he took on this big challenge without hesitation.
I’m sitting here tearing up thinking how much that filled my soul with pride ~ for who he’s becoming and for who I am becoming.
Have you had a moment like this? I’d love to hear about YOUR. SOULFUL. SPACES.
Truly,
Julie
