How Does a Business Connect with Humans?
Humans is my new favorite word!
You can really feel for another human. Rather than a person or a co-worker or an audience, a human being is truly who you should strive to connect with.
My first consulting job was a master’s degree level training in businesses caring about human beings.
SunCommon was the sunny side of a very dark time for me. And, wow, did I have a lot to learn about how a business can love its employee.
Yes, I said the word LOVE in business!

I was in a bedroom, in Atlanta, when I first heard about SunCommon’s merger with a Hudson Valley company.
It didn’t sound like any “merger” that I had heard of. It was the most welcoming event for all of the new employees.
Authentic storytelling is gold for a business.
I said, “This is not your average merger” and we ran with that idea as we shared the news throughout the region.
Duane Peterson, SunCommon Co-Founder
Every business decision is an opportunity to reflect our values. And my core value is love. I need to show love. I need to receive love.
As I build my business, my mission is clear. I have to feel passionate about the work that I am doing.
My soul is fed by helping other humans feel empowered to do their dreams.
As a tv news journalist for 20 years, your story mattered to me deeply. I truly think your story is far more interesting than mine.
Since leaving television, I’ve realized that my voice matters too.
The joy of my work today is feeling another human start to believe in their goals – building a business and sharing their story in a strategic and impactful way.
I’m excited to do more of it in 2023 – with human beings who are eager for passionate, enthusiastic and joyful partnerships!
Communications consulting
2022 was a year of small steps that felt joyful! I’ve done brand storytelling, content creation, blog training sessions and media connecting with an educator turned life coach, a holistic healing visionary, and Vermont’s newest university.
In Service to others
Being in service to others is a core value for me. Sharing my creative and strategic talents as a volunteer on boards for the Fairbanks Museum and Good Shepherd Catholic School is good for my soul! As a member of the Vermont Public Community Forum, I am supporting one of my passions – journalism that values integrity, community and truth.
motherhood
I’ve loved the seasons of my life. This season is blessed with being a Mom to my biggest miracle. So, I embrace the value of flexibility that is part of the “great debate” in the working world.
